REPORT BY SANA
#metoomigrant movement has been trending on Social
Media. It’s strange how these days everything becomes about social media
trends. It’s great to see millions of people supporting and showing solidarity
with the workers; the sad part, however, is that this solidarity is limited to
social media. Out of those millions, only a handful is working on ground zero.
The labor migrants are walking thousands of miles,
from Delhi to Bihar, to Uttar Pradesh, to Maharashtra, etc. In these times when
we are sitting on our beds and sofas, stretching our feet and resting, the
migrants are walking in the harsh sun, without food, without water, with their
kids on their back along with just a plastic bag with some leftover bread
maybe? As Kannan Gopinathan said in his live interview with us and I quote, “The
migrants have all the rights to go to their homes.”
In these tough times, we want to stay with our
family and mind you, most of us are, but when it comes to those migrants, we
say, “they should stay where they are, it’s for their good.” Well, I must say this that if we want them to
stay where they are then we mustn’t just tweet with hashtags, but provide them
with food, water and shelter. The hashtags will really trend when we
work for it in reality.
